When the website is opened for the first time, the database is created automatically—you don't need to import anything manually. You only need to do two things: create an administrator account, and fill in the site name and contact details correctly. The steps below follow the actual admin menus.
Step 1: Create the administrator
Before an administrator has been created, opening any page of the website redirects to the one-time setup page /admin/setup. Fill in three fields on this page:
| Field | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Username | Cannot be empty; maximum 64 characters |
| Password | At least 8 characters |
| Confirm password | Must match the password |
After successful creation, the current browser logs in automatically and redirects to the admin home page /admin. This setup page will then permanently return 404 and can no longer be used to create a second administrator.
To prevent repeated attempts, the same IP can submit at most 5 times within 15 minutes; beyond that, the message "Too many requests, please try again later" is shown.
Step 2: Fill in the site name
The site name is not entered on the administrator creation page. After logging in to the admin, go to "Settings → Site Basics → Basic Information" to change it. The default name is "KingCMS"; simply change it to your company's name.
Step 3: Fill in contact details
Also under "Settings → Site Basics → Basic Information", fill in contact details such as phone and email. The "?" icon next to a field is a help entry; hover over it to see the field description.
Logging in and changing the password
- Login address:
/admin/login; log in with the username and password you just created. - A failed login shows "Incorrect username or password". The same IP and the same username can each fail at most 5 times within 15 minutes; beyond that, the message "Too many attempts, please try again in 15 minutes" is shown.
- To change the password: click "Change Password" in the top-right corner of the admin, or visit
/admin/password. The new password must be at least 8 characters. After the change, all other old sessions except the current one are invalidated.
What to do if you forget the administrator password
In the directory containing , run the following command and enter the new password when prompted:
cd /var/www/kingcms
sudo -u www-data php bin/kingcms admin:reset-password
The command ends all old sessions for that administrator. It only resets the administrator password and does not clear categories, articles, products, or settings.
What the admin looks like
After logging in, you enter the admin home page /admin. The left menu by default includes groups such as: Content (Articles, New article, Tags), Shop (Orders, Products, Payment review), and System settings (Settings, Categories, Languages and countries (including Translation Glossary), API keys). The top-right corner has "Change Password" and "Log Out".
Next, you can configure parameter settings, or first take a look at how administrators are managed.
