For businesses that don't ship, don't let manual delivery hold you back
Many companies sell things that "don't need shipping": cloud drive links with extraction codes, software redemption codes, membership cards, top-up cards, asset packs, usage tutorials. These have no logistics, but they have a more tedious step—delivery. The buyer pays, and you have to hurry to send the link or card number; if they order in the middle of the night, they might not hear back until the next day; if you send the wrong thing or miss an order, the customer experience takes a direct hit. As orders pile up, relying on manual copy-paste is both error-prone and takes up staff time.
KingCMS X1's virtual products and e-card keys feature is built for this kind of business. It lets the system automatically deliver content after the buyer pays, or lets you click once in the backend to deliver. Companies no longer need to watch orders and manually send links or card numbers—business runs smoother.
Two types, matching two ways of selling
X1 divides products that don't need shipping into two categories, so business owners can pick the one that fits their business.
- Virtual products: What's delivered is a block of instructional text or a file. Suitable for cloud drive links with extraction codes, usage tutorials, asset packs, and similar content. After the buyer pays, the system automatically sends the instructions and file, and the order is completed directly.
- E-card keys: You pre-import a batch of card numbers, and each sale automatically sends one. Suitable for redemption codes, membership cards, and top-up cards. Card keys can include passwords, and buyers can see the card number, password, validity period, and usage instructions in the order details, ready to copy and use.
Neither type requires a shipping address or shipping fee, and purchase requires member login. Delivered products do not support buyers actively requesting refunds—this can be set upfront to avoid later disputes.
Automatic delivery frees up manpower from repetitive work
Virtual products support both automatic and manual delivery. With automatic delivery, once the buyer pays successfully, the system immediately sends the content and file, and the order is completed directly. Manual delivery suits scenarios that need human confirmation: after payment the order stays in paid status, and you click deliver in the order details, fill in the instructions, and send to the buyer.
Delivery files are stored in a non-public directory and cannot be accessed directly by URL. Buyers must log in as members to download, and can only download files from their own orders. Download limits and validity periods can both be set, and downloads stop once limits are exceeded. This way, links won't be casually forwarded, and content won't be accessed unlimited times.
For example: a company selling design assets makes its asset pack a virtual product. After the buyer pays, they automatically receive the download link and extraction code, with limits on download count and validity period. The company no longer needs to send emails one by one, and buyers don't have to wait—both sides save effort.
Card key inventory under control, restock when short
The trouble with e-card keys is inventory. Sell for a while and card keys run out, and orders get stuck. X1 manages card keys in the card key library by product and specification, with statuses of unsold, reserved, sold, and voided. Card keys are reserved when an order is placed and automatically delivered after successful payment. When the unsold quantity in a card key pool falls below the reminder threshold, the backend homepage prompts you to restock.
If card keys are insufficient, the order enters a pending-resend status, and the system will not mark an order without card keys as completed. After you import enough card keys, click one-click resend in the pending-resend orders area of the card key library to deliver the card keys to the buyer. The e-card key inventory widget on the backend homepage also shows the number of pending-resend orders, so no order is missed.
Refunds also have two handling options: choose to void the card key, marking the sold card key for this order as voided while keeping the delivery record; or choose goods returned and stocked, restoring the card key to unsold so it can be sold again. Companies can choose flexibly based on the actual situation to reduce losses.
Real value in business scenarios
A company offering online courses makes course materials and cloud drive links into virtual products. After students pay, they automatically receive the content without waiting for customer service to come online. A company selling membership cards pre-imports a batch of card numbers and passwords, automatically sends one with each sale, and members copy the card number and password directly from the order details to top up. In these scenarios, X1's virtual products and e-card keys feature automates the delivery step, reducing manual work and error rates while making the buyer experience smoother.
X1 is free and source-available, with the store module enabled as needed—virtual products and e-card keys are included. Companies can enable it according to their own business.
